Frozen yogurt is full of health benefits! It's not only a tasty alternative to ice cream, but it can actually be very helpful to your health. Yogurt is a good source of calcium, iodine, phosphorous, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, vitamin B5, zinc, potassium, protein, and molybdenum. These are all important nutrients, but the real benefits come from how yogurt is made. Yogurt is simply milk or cream that is cultured with active live cultures. Active live cultures are basically good bacteria that are necessary for the body to function at its best. This bacteria can boost immune response, lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, and help prevent arthritis.
Yogurt also contains lactoferrin which is an iron-binding protein that can boost the body's ability to build bone and reduce the formation of osteoporosis, which can help to prevent or reverse osteoporosis. Yet another benefit of yogurt is it's abilities to increase fat loss and minimize muscle loss. A study published in the International Journal of Obesity took 16 obese men and women and put them on a reduced calorie diet that included three portions of yogurt. 18 other obese men and women were put on a diet with the same amount of calories as the first group but little or no dairy products. The people who consumed the yogurt lost 61% more fat and 81% more abdominal fat than the group who didn't.
